Make juicy, crispy chicken nuggets at home using a simple baking method. This recipe is kid-friendly and avoids deep frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1.5 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coat with cooking spray.
  2. Set up a standard breading station with three shallow dishes.
  3. In the first dish, place the flour. In the second dish, place the beaten eggs. In the third dish, combine the Panko breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  4. Take one piece of chicken and dredge it thoroughly in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  5. Dip the floured chicken piece into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
  6. Press the chicken piece firmly into the Panko mixture until it is completely coated.
  7. Place the coated nugget onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with all remaining chicken pieces.
  8. Spray the tops of the coated nuggets generously with cooking spray to help them brown.
  9. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, flipping the nuggets halfway through, until they are golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  10. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For an air fryer version, cook at 380°F (195°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • You can substitute ground chicken for whole pieces, but you must form the ground chicken into nugget shapes before breading.
  • Use crushed cornflakes instead of Panko for a slightly different crunch.
