You need this easy dirt cake recipe! This no-bake dessert layers crushed Oreos, creamy chocolate pudding, and a rich whipped topping for a crowd-pleasing treat perfect for parties or family nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container (12 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed (like Cool Whip)
  • 2 packages (3.9 ounces each) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 1 carton (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed (for topping)
  • 3 packages (14.3 ounces each) Oreo cookies, crushed

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar together until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  2. Gently fold in one container of the thawed whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture until just combined. Set this mixture aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and the cold milk for about two minutes, until the pudding begins to thicken.
  4. Let the pudding mixture sit for five minutes to set up further.
  5. Gently fold the remaining thawed whipped topping into the thickened pudding mixture.
  6. Take about two-thirds of the crushed Oreo cookies and mix them into the pudding layer until they are evenly distributed. This creates your main ‘dirt’ layer.
  7. In a large trifle dish or 9×13 inch pan, spread half of the Oreo-pudding mixture evenly across the bottom.
  8. Spread the reserved cream cheese mixture evenly over the first pudding layer.
  9. Top the cream cheese layer with the remaining half of the Oreo-pudding mixture.
  10. Spread the final container of thawed whipped topping over the top layer.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreo cookies over the whipped topping to resemble dirt.
  12. Chill the dirt cake in the refrigerator for at least four hours, or preferably overnight, before serving.

Notes

  • For a fun presentation, you can layer this dessert in individual clear cups or even clean plastic flower pots for a party.
  • If you want a richer flavor, substitute one package of chocolate pudding with one package of instant vanilla or cookies and cream pudding.
  • You can use the entire Oreo cookie, filling and all, for crushing; no need to scrape out the cream filling.
