Make this quick and flavorful shrimp dish featuring a rich sauce made from butter, fresh lemon juice, and plenty of garlic. It is a simple meal ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant; do not let the garlic brown.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Once melted, pour in the white wine or broth and let it simmer for 1 minute, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  6. Stir in the lemon juice and lemon zest. Let the sauce reduce slightly, about 1 minute.
  7. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Toss gently to coat the shrimp in the sauce.
  8. Remove from heat, stir in the fresh parsley, and taste for final seasoning adjustments.

Notes

  • Serve this shrimp immediately over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
  • For extra richness, finish the sauce with a small pat of cold butter just before adding the shrimp back in.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor in this recipe.
