Ingredients
Scale
12 large jalapeño peppers
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Put on gloves before handling the peppers. Slice the jalapeños in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon or knife to carefully scoop out the seeds and white membranes. This step controls the heat level.
In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until completely combined. This is your creamy cheese filling.
Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeño half, mounding it slightly.
In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle the buttered breadcrumbs over the top of the filled peppers.
Place the stuffed peppers on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the peppers are tender.
Let the baked jalapeño poppers cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Wear disposable gloves when cutting the peppers to prevent capsaicin oil from irritating your skin.
For less heat, remove all the white membrane inside the pepper. For more heat, leave some of the membrane intact.
If you want bacon wrapped poppers, wrap each filled pepper half with half a slice of bacon before baking. Adjust the cook time as needed.
