Make a layered, coffeehouse-style Iced Caramel Macchiato at home using this simple recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots espresso (or 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup
  • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce (for drizzle)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Pour the vanilla syrup into the bottom of a tall glass.
  2. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with ice.
  3. Pour the milk over the ice, filling the glass almost to the top.
  4. Prepare your espresso shots. If using strong brewed coffee, let it cool slightly.
  5. Gently pour the espresso (or coffee) over the milk. Pour slowly over the back of a spoon held just above the milk surface to help create a distinct layer.
  6. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top layer of espresso in a crosshatch or circular pattern.
  7. Serve immediately without stirring to maintain the layers.

Notes

  • If you do not have an espresso machine, use 1/4 cup of very strong coffee concentrate as a substitute.
  • For a dairy-free option, use almond or oat milk.
  • To make the layers more distinct, chill the milk before assembly.
  • Use a milk frother to create a small amount of foam on top of the milk layer before adding espresso, if desired.
