A straightforward recipe for a soothing hot drink using fresh ginger, lemon, and honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 inch fresh ginger root, thinly sliced or grated
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons honey (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan.
  2. Add the sliced or grated ginger to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how strong you want the ginger flavor.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  5. Strain the liquid into a mug, discarding the ginger pieces.
  6. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and honey until dissolved.
  7. Taste and add more honey if you prefer it sweeter.

Notes

  • For a stronger flavor, steep the ginger in hot (not boiling) water for 15 minutes instead of simmering.
  • If you use dried ginger powder, use 1/2 teaspoon and steep for only 3 minutes.
  • You can adjust the lemon juice amount to control the tartness.
  • This tea is best consumed immediately while hot.
