Ingredients
Scale
2 (3/4-inch thick) fully cooked ham steaks
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
Pat the ham steaks dry using paper towels. This helps the glaze adhere better.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet (cast iron works well) over medium heat until shimmering.
Place the ham steaks in the hot skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until light golden brown.
While the ham cooks, whisk together the honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper in a small bowl to create the glaze.
Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour the prepared glaze evenly over both ham steaks in the skillet.
Let the glaze bubble gently for about 1 minute, then flip the ham steaks. Spoon the glaze from the bottom of the pan over the top of the steaks.
Continue cooking, spooning the glaze over the steaks every minute, for another 3 to 4 minutes, until the glaze thickens slightly and coats the ham well. Do not let the sugar burn.
Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and serve immediately with the remaining pan glaze spooned over the top.
Notes
Use ham steaks cut about 3/4 inch thick for the best results; thinner steaks cook too quickly and the glaze may burn.
If the glaze thickens too fast, add one teaspoon of water to the pan to loosen it slightly.
You can prepare the glaze mixture up to one day ahead and store it covered in the refrigerator.
