Make this classic, creamy Oreo Dirt Cake. It is a simple, no-bake dessert layered with chocolate pudding and crushed Oreos, perfect for parties or family night treats.
1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies, crushed (reserve some for topping)
Gummy worms, for decoration (optional)
Instructions
In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add the confectioners’ sugar and mix until fully combined. Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until the mixture is uniform. Set this cream layer aside.
In a separate large bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk for about two minutes, or until the mixture begins to thicken.
Crush the Oreo cookies. You can do this in a food processor or by placing them in a large zip-top bag and crushing them with a rolling pin. You want a mix of fine crumbs and some slightly larger pieces for texture.
Begin layering the dessert in a large trifle dish or a 9×13 inch pan. Start with a layer of crushed Oreos.
Spread half of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the Oreo layer.
Spoon half of the prepared chocolate pudding over the cream layer.
Repeat the layers: remaining crushed Oreos, remaining cream cheese mixture, and finally, the remaining chocolate pudding.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the layers to set properly. This is a great make-ahead dessert.
Before serving, sprinkle the reserved crushed Oreos over the top layer to resemble dirt. If you are using them, press gummy worms into the top layer for decoration.
Notes
For the best texture, make sure your cream cheese and butter are fully softened before mixing.
You can make this dessert in individual cups (Dirt Cup Recipe) for easy serving at parties.
If you do not have milk, you can substitute it with the amount of liquid specified on your pudding package instructions, though cold milk yields the creamiest result.
If you want an extra chocolate kick, use chocolate milk instead of regular milk for the pudding.
