Ingredients
Scale
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus 4 tablespoons for coating
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon for coating
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, 2 tablespoons melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix the batter.
Lightly spray your donut pan or molds with cooking spray. Fill each mold about two-thirds full with the batter.
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully place the filled donut molds into the air fryer basket.
Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
While the donuts cook, prepare the coating: In a shallow dish, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon.
Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in a small microwave-safe bowl.
Once the donuts are cooked, carefully remove them from the molds.
Dip each warm donut briefly into the melted butter, allowing excess to drip off.
Immediately roll the buttered donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
Place the coated donuts on a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
If you do not have donut molds, you can cut shapes from rolled-out dough, but ensure the pieces are small enough to fit without touching in the air fryer basket.
For crispier edges, you can spray the tops of the donuts lightly with cooking spray before the final minute of air frying.
Use whole milk for a richer texture in the batter.
