A recipe for a rich, gooey chocolate pecan pie with a flaky crust, suitable for holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, corn syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and salt until smooth.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips and pecan halves until they are evenly coated with the mixture.
  4. Pour the filling mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
  5. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes. The center should be mostly set but still slightly jiggly. If the crust edges brown too quickly, cover them loosely with aluminum foil.
  6. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack for at least 3 hours before slicing. This allows the filling to set properly.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute 1 tablespoon of bourbon for 1 tablespoon of the corn syrup.
  • To achieve a bakery-style look, arrange a few pecan halves decoratively on top of the filling before baking.
  • If you prefer a thicker chocolate layer, add 1/4 cup of chopped pecans to the chocolate chips before mixing them into the batter.
