Ingredients
Scale
1 whole chicken (about 3-4 lbs)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
Remove the giblets from the chicken cavity and pat the entire chicken dry with paper towels. This helps achieve crispy skin.
In a small bowl, mix the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and thyme to create the rub.
Rub the olive oil all over the outside of the chicken.
Sprinkle the seasoning rub evenly over the chicken, making sure to cover the top and sides.
Place the seasoned chicken breast-side up in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket.
Set the air fryer temperature to 360°F (180°C) and cook for 40 minutes.
After 40 minutes, carefully flip the chicken over.
Increase the temperature to 380°F (195°C) and cook for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature in the thickest part of the thigh reaches 165°F (74°C).
Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest on a cutting board for 10 minutes before carving.
Notes
For extra flavor, stuff the cavity with half a lemon and a few sprigs of rosemary before seasoning.
If your chicken is larger than 4 lbs, you may need to add 5-10 minutes to the total cooking time.
