Make crispy French toast sticks quickly in the air fryer with a simple cinnamon sugar coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices thick bread (like brioche or Texas toast), crusts removed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut each slice of bread into three equal sticks.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon sugar until combined.
  3. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Do not soak them.
  4. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  5. Arrange the bread sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Spray the tops of the sticks lightly with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry at 375 degrees F for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the sticks cook, prepare the coating by mixing the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon in a small bowl.
  9. Remove the cooked sticks from the air fryer and immediately toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  10. Serve warm with maple syrup or your preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly toast the bread sticks in the air fryer for 2 minutes before dipping them in the batter.
  • If you want to make these ahead, prepare the sticks, place them on a baking sheet, and freeze them. Cook from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the cooking time.
  • Use maple syrup or a quick fruit compote for dipping.
